Sensitivity of a will

A will identifies the testator, beneficiaries (often family), executor, sometimes specific assets (real estate, bank accounts, valuables), and witnesses. Selective disclosure — sharing only the relevant clauses with a given beneficiary — is a common practice.

Why redact a will

  • Providing a beneficiary with only their relevant clauses
  • Sharing with a bank for asset transfer without revealing other beneficiaries
  • Court submissions in probate disputes
  • Anonymized teaching cases

Layout-preserving redaction

Wills typically have clause numbering and signature pages that must remain intact. Our redaction preserves the visual layout. Use Studio review for the precise selective-disclosure pattern you need.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the will

    Single document; sometimes multiple codicils.

  2. 2

    Default PII sweep

    Person, Address, Date, IBAN, Organization.

  3. 3

    Studio refinement

Adjust which beneficiaries are visible vs. masked for the specific disclosure.

  4. 4

    Download

    Flattened, share-ready PDF.

For estate practice

Beneficiary-specific extracts protect family privacy and prevent inter-beneficiary disputes. Bulk-handling multiple disclosures from the same master is fast in Studio.

Frequently asked questions

Can I produce different redacted versions for different beneficiaries?

Yes — re-run Studio with different masking choices and save each version separately. Masks are persisted, so you can edit later.

Are signed witness blocks redacted?

Witness names are detected. Use "Excluded Terms" if you want specific witnesses to remain visible.

Is the redacted will legally valid?

No — it is an extract for sharing. The original signed will is the legally operative document.
